Day 166
06-14-15
A Quick Note
Hey everyone –
I just wanted to let you know that the 365 project continues, and picture taking is still happening. I have been slow to update and upload photos lately thanks to some other projects that have come up. But it is still going.
I’m almost halfway though the year, and frankly, I would quit this thing right now, except that I said I would do it. Perhaps it’s The Resistance (that thing inside your head that fights you, not some underground group or rock band) that is pushing me, but I feel like I have done what I set out to do.
The purpose of the 365 project was to get better at taking pictures, and to find my voice, to figure out what I have to say, and what I want to do with photography. I think I have done both things.
Not to say that I am done getting better. Far from it, I still have a lot to learn. I still want to improve, but I dont’ know how much 365 is going to help that. It might, and I would be happy for that to be the case. I’m just not sure it’s the way it will happen.
What I would prefer, and this is in part borne out of doin the 365 project, is to do a weekly photo excursion. Getting out for several hours at a time, even an entire day, and tackle a whole neighborhood or area. I wind up doing that on some days, but still only posting one photo on the site. There are thousands of photos that aren’t the one, and while many of them are clunkers, there are some decent ones in there.
I honestly feel like I do my best work that way, getting out and taking photos for hours in a day. The 365 allows me to do that at times, while other days I have to rush to knock out a photo and wind up phoning in a day. That feels rather phony, and I’m sure you can tell the difference.
So for now, I continue on. I might reevaluate later, turn it in to a 182.5 project, but I’d rather see it out.
Thanks for reading this long post on a site that is entirely photos. And thanks for encouraging me and all the notes and favorites and likes. They actually do help.
Oh, one final note. Look for an announcement in August or so. I have something in mind.
